Here's my stupid question of the moment: Why aren't Detroit casino revenues enough to resolve the school board's financial problems?

Mon, June 11, 2007 - 10:08 AMI don't think the Detroit schools get much money directly from the casinos, except for milage on the actual property they own in the city. Casino revenues are taxed by the state. The state, then, gives financial support to all of the state's school districts, not just Detroit. Also, I believe other tax revenues for the schools were given up when the casino deal was struck, but I don't remember what they were. If anyone has more precise information, I'd love to be enlightened.
